Total Darkness

With trembling hands,
After hours of rush,
A heartbeat was heard
Lub-dup in the chaos.

The monitor showed the sign,
And the trembling was gone,
As the operation was successful.
With 36 hours of continuous work,
With little rest and almost no food,
We achieved our goal:
We saved a young soul.

I cried as I stepped outside
To change out of scrubs
Stained with the blemish of blood.
With the phenolic aroma
Still lingering on my clothes,
I cleaned myself up.........

...........And then I passed out.
As I fell, I saw my loved one
Catching me before I hit the ground,
And then,
Total darkness.
